  • Erik Vance named new SPC track and field head coach

    The South Plains College Track and Field program will begin a new era under first-year head coach Erik Vance. Vance served as an assistant coach for South Plains during the 2015-16 season, playing a crucial role in helping the Texans capture their 10th consecutive NJCAA Outdoor title. Vance will take over for former head coach Chris Beene, who stepped away to enter private business after 12 successful seasons at the helm, where he compiled 32 NJCAA track and field, cross country and Half Marathon championships.

Most likely due to the fact it has never been accomplished at any national level, ever. You can look back into the golden years of 1964 and see that John Wooden's UCLA basketball program won 10 national titles over a 12-year span, beginning in '64 and capsizing in 1975. Not bad.

    The South Plains College Track and Field teams made their third appearance of the 2016 Indoor season this weekend after competing in the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas. Following the weekend, the Texans and Lady Texans have now accumulated 68 national qualifying marks, and currently hold the top position in several events. The Texans were lead by DeVante Lacy in the 400 meters, who's time of 46.61 was good enough for first place, and currently sits as the fastest time in the NJCAA.
