The South Plains College Texans and Lady Texans track and field teams will make their second Indoor appearance this weekend when they travel to College Station for the Charlie Thomas Invitational.

After an extremely impressive showing at the Deloss Dodds Invitational at Kansas State University on January 22, South Plains will once again compete against top tier division one programs from across the country.

Not to falter, South Plains posted 32 national qualifying marks while in Manhattan, including multiple first place finishes, and were consistent top 10 finishers across the board.

Devante Lacy took the top spot in the men's 400 meters, with a final time of 47.79, which currently is the second best time in the NJCAA. Robert Downs Jr. placed first in the men's 600-yard dash with a dazzling final time of 1:11.66, which is currently the fourth fastest time in the NJCAA.

Hassan Abdi placed first overall in the men's 3000 meters with a time of 8:38.30, which currently sits as the fourth best time in the NJCAA. Fabian Edoki took first in the men's triple jump with a distance of 47' 3", while also placing first overall in the men's long jump with a distance of 24' 7.75". The men's 4x400 team made up of Lacy, Williams, Downs Jr. and Dedrian Windham took first overall with a finishing time of 3:14.94.

On the women's side, Aaliyah Telesford placed first overall in the women's 60 meters with a final time of 7.61. Mauricia Prieto took the top spot in the women's 200 meters with a final time of 25.04. Medinah Spencer's time of 56.07 took first in the women's 400 meters, while Waller Lewis placed third with a finishing time of 59.77.

In the women's 60 meter hurdles, Shanice Lewis and Spencer placed second and third overall, with final times of 8.80 and 8.99, respectively. Defending NJCAA national title holder Morgan Hartsell placed first overall in the women's pole vault event, with a final mark of 11' 5.75". Anyi Garcia-Solis placed third overall in the women's high jump competition with a height of 5' 4.25", while Felicia Frimpong took first in the women's triple jump with a distance of 38' 11.75".

Following this weekend's competition, South Plains will be back on the road again next weekend when they travel to the University of Arkansas for the Tyson Invitational, beginning on Friday, February 12.
