SPC Track & Field Begin 2016 Campaign

The South Plains College men's and women's Track and Field teams will kickoff their 2016 season on Saturday at the Deloss Dodds Invitational at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.

After sweeping the NJCAA Indoor National Championship a season ago, both teams will come into the season looking to defend their titles as the Indoor National Champions.

The women's team will be returning three national champions from last year's team, including Anyi Garcia-Solis, Morgan Hartsell and Kassidi Jones. Garcia-Solis was crowned national champion in the triple jump at naionals last season, while Hartsell earned national championship honors in the pole vault competition. Jones was part of the distance medley relay team that took first at the indoor nationals in 2015, and will play a major role again this season for the Lady Texans.

On the men's side, Hassan Abdi and Kelvin Keter will play a major role in the success of the Texans this season. Freshman Nicholas Rotch will look to make a impact for the Texans in 2016, and head coach Chris Beene is also expecting a big year from Sophomore Devante Lacy out of Klein Oak high school in Houston.

Following this weekend's meet in Kansas, the Texans and Lady Texans will return to action when they head to College Station for the Texas A&M Invitational on February 5th.
