South Plains will be competing against a loaded field of four-year schools this weekend, including #1 Angelo State, #7 Texas A&M-Commerce, #14 Pittsburg State, and #16 Texas A&M-Kingsville on the men’s side. On the women's side, competing teams include #4 Angelo State, #5 Missouri Southern State, #10 Pittsburg State, and #22 Texas A&M-Commerce.

ABILENE — The South Plains College men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the outdoor season on Saturday with the Texans running away with three event titles at the Wes Kittley Invitational on the campus of Abilene Christian University.
The Texans and Lady Texans combined for 14 national qualifying marks in Abilene and will look to add to that number next weekend at the Fearless Champion Open March 22-23 on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

PITTSBURG, KS — The South Plains College men’s and women’s track and field teams capped the indoor season with a pair of top-five national finishes Saturday at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The Lady Texans earned a third-place team finish with 63 points, as Barton County took first with 119 points, followed by New Mexico Junior College who placed second with 103 points. The Texans finished fifth overall in the men’s team standings with 53 points, as Iowa Central took first with 90.5 points, followed by Barton County (80), Cloud County (63), and Coffeyville (59.5).

LEVELLAND — After shattering the women’s NJCAA indoor 5000-meter national record at the Charlie Thomas Thomas Invitational, South Plains freshman Gladys Jemaiyo was named the USTFCCCA NJCAA Women’s ITF National Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
COLLEGE STATION, TX — The South Plains College men’s and women’s track and field teams capped the weekend at the Charlie Thomas Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium with a new national record and multiple event titles.
Leading after day one, Sophomore Asani Hylton wrapped up the heptathlon with 5136 points to take first overall. Following first place finishes in the 60 meters, long jump, and high jump on Friday, Hylton opened day two with a second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.56. Hylton would then take fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 12’ 1.5”, and second in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:53.44.

I athletes at the 2019 Charlie Thomas Invitational on the campus of Texas A&M University, South Plains freshman Gladys Jemaiyo represented her school and the NJCAA in prime fashion in the women's 5000-meter run, setting a new national record with a final time of 16:51.52.
LEVELLAND — Compiling 19 national qualifying marks in their first outing in Lubbock, the South Plains College men’s and women’s track and field teams will return to the track this weekend at the Charlie Thomas Invitational on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station.
