LEVELLAND — Each earning a top-five national ranking in the week one USTFCCCA national poll, the South Plains College men's and women's track and field teams will travel to San Angelo on Saturday for the 2019 David Noble Relays at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
Coming off a strong outing in Austin at the Texas Relays last week, the Texans earned a No. 1 national ranking on Wednesday, with the Lady Texans holding the No. 4 spot on the women's side. South Plains will be competing against a loaded field of four-year schools this weekend, including #1 Angelo State, #7 Texas A&M-Commerce, #14 Pittsburg State, and #16 Texas A&M-Kingsville on the men's side. On the women's side, competing teams include #4 Angelo State, #5 Missouri Southern State, #10 Pittsburg State, and #22 Texas A&M-Commerce.
Action will get underway on Saturday with the women's 100-meter hurdles at 12:30 p.m., with the men's 1600 meter relay capping the running events at 8:35. Field events are slated for a 12:30 start with the women's hammer throw and are set to finish with the men's at high jump beginning at 7 p.m.

Bryson Deberry kicked off the meet with a second place finish in the men's high jump, clearing 7' 0.25" on the second attempt of his second bar, trailing only Nebraska's Miles Griffith who jumped 7' 1.5". Sophomore Ruth Usoro turned in a fourth-place finish in the women's long jump, posting a final mark of 19' 10.25".
In the men's 110 hurdles, freshman Devaughn Whymns qualified for Saturday's finals, placing seventh on Friday in a time of 14.05. In section b of the men's 1500 meters on Thursday, South Plains' Andrew Bosquez took third, clocking a 4:01.25. Freshman standout Gladys Jemaiyo earned an eighth-place finish in the women's 5000, posting a 17:71.51 for the Lady Texans.
Running out of lane seven, sophomore Deion Lightfoot ran a blistering 14.16 in the men's 110 hurdles invitational, placing second overall competing as the lone junior college athlete. Running against a field of Div. I athletes, South Plains freshman Dorcus Ewoi turned in a ninth place overall finish in the women's 1500 meters, crossing the line in 4:41.52.
