LEVELLAND — Each ranked third in the week two USTFCCCA national poll, the South Plains College men's and women's track and field teams will compete in Hobbs April 12-13 at the Ross Black Invitational at the Ross Black Field of Champions of the campus of New Mexico Junior College.

Action will get underway on Friday with the women's long jump at 4 p.m., with running events to kick off with the women's 4x100 meter relay prelims at 5 p.m. The meet will continue on Saturday at 10 a.m with the women's javelin, with running events beginning at noon. Heartland Timing will provide live results which can be accessed with the link at the bottom of the page.

The Texans have tallied 25 national qualifying marks to date and brought home five event titles a week ago in San Angelo. The Lady Texans snagged a pair of event titles in their last outing and have racked up 18 national marks after four meets.

Sophomore Bryson Deberry kicked off the meet for the Texans as the sophomore from Plainview took first in the men's high jump, clearing 7' 1.5". Sophomore Jesse Madrid was the first runner across the line in the men's 3000 steeplechase, clocking a 9:41.09.

South Plains' Andrew Bosquez continued his tear in the men's 5000 meters, running a 14:58.63 to take the top spot for the Texans. Alex Kitum also placed third in the race in 15:18.95, hitting a national qualifying mark. In the men's 400 hurdle finals, Moitalei Mpoke and Deion Lightfoot went 1-2 as Mpoke crossed the line in 51.11, while Lightfoot took second in 53.67.

The Texans posted the top time in the men's 4x100 relay as Brandon Letts, AJ Pemberton, Adrese Atkins, and Willari Watson ran a 40.01 to take first overall. Freshman Bryce Spencer used a throw of 171' 5" to take sixth in the men's javelin, while sophomore Riley Finnegan placed sixth in the men's discus finals with a throw of 163' 6".

The Lady Texans picked up a pair of event titles on the weekend, the first coming in the women's 5000 meters final as freshman Gladys Jemaiyo placed first in 17:25.78. Freshman Lynda Martinez followed up with a top finish in the 1500 meters, clocking a 5:11.50 for the Lady Texans.

In the women's 100 meters, sophomore Ruth Usoro turned in an 11.83 to take fifth for South Plains. The Lady Texans placed a pair of runners in the 400-meter finals, as Geordan Blanchard took second in 58.09, while Alyssa Hernandez ran a 1:00.35, good enough for fourth.

Freshman Itzel Garcia-Santos earned a second place finish in the women's 800 meters, clocking a 2:14.97. Running out of lane six in the women's 400 hurdles, sophomore Janiel Moore turned in a 1:04.37 to take third for South Plains. The Lady Texans closed out the meet with a fourth-place finish in the women's 4x100 relay as Usoro, Patrice Moody, Elon'a Jones, and Blanchard posted a 46.70.

Following the meet in Hobbs, South Plains will head to Abilene April 24 for the Oliver Jackson Twilight, followed by a short trip to Lubbock on May 4 for the Masked Rider Open on the campus of Texas Tech University.
