Asani Hylton wins men's decathlon at 92nd KU Relays Thursday

LAWRENCE, KS. — South Plains College sophomore decathlete Asani Hylton used four top-two finishes to win the men's decathlon Thursday at the 92nd Kansas Relays presented by RCB Bank at Roch Chalk Park.

Holding a 259-point lead after day one, Hylton finished with 6,548 points, with second place finisher Logan Lamb of Baker University capping the meet with 6078 points. Hylton posted the top mark in the javelin with a throw of 160' 8", picking up 573 points, followed by a second place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 15.66, netting 772 points.

Hylton would then turn in a second place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 101' 11", tacking on 486 points, and cleared 12' 5½" in the pole vault, good enough for second overall and 562 points. Hylton closed out the meet with a second place finish in the men's 1500 meters, crossing the line in 5:06.78 to add 521 points to his final total.

In day one action on Wednesday, Hylton posted the top mark in the shot put with a throw of 37' 5¼", notching 571 points. Hylton followed up with a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 6' 9" for 859 points. Hylton placed second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 52.87, tacking on 687 points, and placed second in the long jump with a mark of 22' 1" to net 750 points. Hylton rounded out the day with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash, crossing the line in 11.43 for 767 points.
