South Plains track and field make strong showing on day three of 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays

AUSTIN — The South Plains College men's and women's track and field teams capped day three of the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with a trio of top 10 finishes Friday at Mike A. Meyers Stadium.

Bryson Deberry kicked off the day with a second place finish in the men's high jump, clearing 7' 0.25" on the second attempt of his second bar, trailing only Nebraska's Miles Griffith who jumped 7' 1.5". Sophomore Ruth Usoro turned in a fourth-place finish in the women's long jump, posting a final mark of 19' 10.25".

In the men's 110 hurdles, freshman Devaughn Whymns qualified for Saturday's finals, placing seventh on Friday in a time of 14.05. In section b of the men's 1500 meters on Thursday, South Plains' Andrew Bosquez took third, clocking a 4:01.25. Freshman standout Gladys Jemaiyo earned an eighth-place finish in the women's 5000, posting a 17:71.51 for the Lady Texans.

Action will continue on Saturday morning beginning at 8:15 a.m. as the meet will be aired live on the Longhorn Network. Whymns will represent the Texans in the men's 110 hurdle finals, running out of lane two. Sophomore Deion Lightfoot will run out of lane seven in the men's 110 hurdles invitational, the lone junior college athlete competing in the race.

South Plains' Holland Martin will compete for the Texans in the men's long jump on Saturday which gets underway at 3 p.m, while Dorcus Ewoi will run for the Lady Texans in the women's 1500 meters at 3:35 p.m.
