Texan rodeo team takes third at Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo

PORTALES — The South Plains College men's rodeo team opened the year with a third place team finish Saturday at the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo at the Lewis Cooper Arena.

The Texans tallied 250 points, led by Kayden Little and Daryan Dominguez in team roping. Little pained up with Jarett Freeman from Weatherford College, as the duo posted a 7.1 in the long round and a 6.3 in the short go to finish first overall with a 13.4 average and 120 points. Dominguez joined up with Chance Thiessen from Weatherford College, running a 6.8 in the long round followed by a 7.2 in the finals to take second with an average of 14.0 and 130 points.

Western Texas won the men's division with 490 points, while Texas Tech took first on the women's side with 340 points. The Lady Texans didn't score in Portales but will get another opportunity when the SPC rodeo teams return to the arena in Alpine for the Sul Ross State University Rodeo Sept. 23-25.
