Texans Ready for Postseason Run

One game at a time.

After finishing the regular season with a 21-8 record, and an 11-4 record in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, the South Plains College Texans will begin their journey through the postseason on March 2 when they travel to the Brownwood Coliseum in Brownwood, Texas for the NJCAA Region 5 basketball tournament.

South Plains, who has won 10 of its last 12 and is currently ranked No. 24 in the country, will faceoff with Hill College in the opening round of the single-elimination tourney at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The Texans will be led by North Carolina native Che Bob, who currently leads the Texans in scoring with 16 points and eight rebounds per-game, and is shooting over 50 percent from the field on the season.

"I think we have some matchup issues with Hill and the way they try to play versus the way we try to play, so I think the team that is successful, their will (to win) will win out," South Plains head coach Steve Green said. "They play more like Howard, who have five guys who face the basket all the time, instead of putting someone down there on the post. So that's the difference. You just take these one game at a time, and when you get into a tournament like this, it's one possession at a time."

Hill will be coming into the contest with a 21-8 record on the season, including a 6-6 record in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference. The Rebels are led by sophomore Devocio Butler who is averaging 17 points-per-game on the season. Should the Texans get by the Rebels on Wednesday, they will await a matchup with either Ranger College or Frank Phillips, who will play on Wednesday at noon.

Live video will be available at www.spctexans.com using the 'Regional Tournament' tab at the top of the page, and KLVT's Michael Wiiest will call the courtside action. The games will also be available locally on KLVT radio as well as online at www.klvtradio.com.
