SPC rodeo qualifies seven for Frank Phillips College rodeo finals

CANADIAN, Texas — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams wrapped up their fourth rodeo of the year Saturday, with SPC qualifying seven for the finals at the Frank Phillips College Rodeo.

The Texans finished sixth with 150 points, led by Daryan Dominguez in team roping. Dominguez rode with Chance Thiessen from Weatherford College, with the duo turning in a time of 6.0 in the long round followed by a 7.2 in the short go to finish with a 13.2 average, good enough for third overall and 105 points.

Brey Yore added 45 points in tiedown roping, running an 8.6 in the long round and a 15.6 in the finals, placing eighth overall with a 24.2 average. Dawson Loewen placed fifth overall in steer wrestling, running a 4.6 in the long round and a 5.1 in the finals to finish with a 9.7 average and 65 individual points. Clay Guthrie finished 11th in steer wrestling, posting a 5.5 in the long round but no timed in the finals.

South Plains' Carter Robertson and Coy McPhee qualified for the finals in team roping, placing ninth and 10th, respectively. Robertson rode with Caden Beatty from Cisco, posting a 6.3 in the long round but no timed in the finals to finish with a 106.3 average. McPhee rode with Nicola Hinojosa from Sul Ross, turning in a 6.7 in the long round but missed in the finals to finish with a 106.7 average.

Maddie Bews represented the Lady Texans in the breakaway roping finals, placing fourth overall. Bews ran a 2.7 in the long round and a 4.7 in the finals, picking up 35 individual points.

South Plains returns to the arena when they travel to Lubbock for the Texas Tech University rodeo Oct. 28-30.
