Kenline takes fourth in steer wrestling at Vernon College Rodeo

The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams were back in the arena this weekend competing at the Vernon College Rodeo in Vernon, Texas at the Wilbarger Event Center.

Logan Kenline led the way for South Plains in steer wrestling, notching a fourth place overall finish. Kenline posted a 4.8 in the long round, which he followed up with a 4.4 in the finals to finish with a 9.2 average and 55 points. Dawson Loewen also qualified for the steer wrestling finals, posting a 4.8 in the long round and a 19.0 in the short go to finish with a 23.8 average, good enough for ninth overall.

The Texans qualified two for the team roping finals, including Spencer Clements who rode with Texas Tech's Brock Corman. The duo placed seventh, running a 6.8 in the long round and an 11.8 in the finals to finish with an 18.3 average. South Plains' Darian Gonzales joined up with Weatherford's Chance Thiessen, with the pair clocking a 6.3 in the long round before missing in the finals, picking up 10 points.

South Plains will be back in the arena next week when they travel to Canadian, Texas for the Frank Phillips College Rodeo Oct. 7-9, followed by a trip to Lubbock for the Texas Tech University Rodeo Oct. 28-30.
