South Plains competes in final rodeo of fall season

LUBBOCK, Texas—The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams competed at the 2016 Texas Tech Rodeo on Oct.27-Oct.29, placing six athletes in Saturday's final round.

Jenna Dallyn, a freshman from Nanton Toliro, Canada, placed first overall in the goat tying competition with 150 total points, running a long time of 7.8, and a final time of 7.6. Avery Gonzales also advanced to the finals in goat tying, finishing sixth overall with 30 points, running a long time of 8, and a short time of 8.6

Freshman Kashley Seitz advanced to the finals for the Lady Texans in the barrel racing event, placing fourth overall with 70 points, running a long time of 15.98, and a final time of 15.91. Sierra White also advanced to the finals in barrel racing with her long time of 15.94 and short time of 16.60.

The Texans Jhett Trenary and Jose Domenigo impressed in the team roping competition, running a long time of 6.1 and a finals time of 5.3, finishing third overall with 115 points.

Saturday marked the final fall rodeo for South Plains, who will begin its spring season on Feb. 23 at Odessa College. Full results from the weekend can be found at spctexans.com.
