Levelland, Tx - Both the men's and women's basketball programs at South Plains College are entering the upcoming season with high expectations and national recognition.
The women's basketball team has been picked to win the conference championship and enters the season ranked No. 7 in the nation. Building on a successful previous season and returning a talented core, the team aims to compete at the highest level and make a strong postseason push.
Meanwhile, the men's basketball team begins the season ranked No. 2 nationally and has been picked second in the conference preseason poll. With a mix of veteran leadership and promising new talent, the team is poised for another competitive season and looks to vie for both conference and national honors.
"Preseason rankings are always an exciting time for college basketball fans," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Boone. "It's fun to see projections, matchups, and all the hype surrounding programs as we head into a great season of junior college hoops. We're grateful for the respect shown to our players and our program, but we know rankings don't win games. Every night, it comes down to competing, executing, and earning it on the court. We are looking forward to testing ourselves with a challenging non-conference slate before diving into the grind of WJCAC play."
"We are excited about the outlook for both programs," added Head Women's Basketball Coach Baten. "Our student-athletes have worked incredibly hard in the offseason, and we're looking forward to a season full of challenges, growth, and opportunities to showcase our teams."
Both programs will begin conference play in January, with full schedule information available on the SPC Texans and Lady Texans website.
