Dodge City edges No. 13 Lady Texans 85-78 Wednesday

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College women's basketball team dropped its season opener to Dodge City Wednesday night, as the Lady Conquistadors edged the Lady Texans 85-78 at the Texan Dome.

South Plains will now hit the road for the first of three consecutive road trips beginning with a road stint in Arizona at the Eastern Arizona Classic. SPC will square off with Pima Community College at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 9, followed by a 4 p.m. tip against Trinidad State on Nov. 10.

SPC shot 38 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from distance Wednesday, led by Isabella Jaramillo's 17 points off the bench. The sophomore guard finished five of 10 from the field and four of 6 from the field while also grabbing five rebounds over 31 minutes. Sahir Alizada finished with 15 points for South Plains, connecting on five of 11 shots from the field and was four of five from the free throw line.

Maya Woodson netted nine points and five boards coming off the bench for the Lady Texans, while Bella Belong tallied nine points and Shcira Fowles and Jennifer each finished with eight points. Fowles also recorded a game-high rebounds over 24 minutes.

Dodge City shot 47.1 percent from the floor and 39.4 percent from the 3-point line, led by Paris Santacaterina's game-high 25 points. Santacaterina knocked down nine of 15 shots from the floor while also picking four rebounds and handed out a team-high five assists. Parris Akins bucketed 19 points and eight boards for Dodge City, while Kyriana Jones was five of nine from the floor, totaling 14 points over 32 minutes.
