No. 5 Lady Texans defeat Frank Phillips 54-46 Monday to capture Western Junior College Athletic Conference title

BORGER — Facing one final road test holding a single game lead in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, the fifth-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team battled their way to a 54-46 win over Frank Phillips College Monday to capture the WJCAC title.

The Lady Texans end the regular season as winners of seven straight, finishing with a 16-3 record overall including a 13-2 mark in league play. South Plains wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the WJCAC Women's Basketball Tournament which will be held April 5-7 at Lubbock Christian University. SPC will receive a first-round bye, and will tip-off at 2 p.m. on April 6th against the winner of Clarendon and Howard College.

An anchor for the Lady Texans in the paint all season, freshman Debora Reis led the Lady Texans on the offensive end once again against FPC, recording her 15th double-double of the year. Reis dropped in 14 points on 6 of 11 shooting and snagged 15 rebounds, six on the offensive end. Viktoria Ivanova chipped in nine points for South Plains who shot 40.9 percent from the field and were a perfect 16 of 16 from the free throw line.

Dyana Offutt netted eight points for the Lady Texans while sophomore Grace Hunter had seven points and nine boards. Shayla Moseberry provided six points coming off the bench for South Plains who received 10 points from their bench in the contest.

South Plains stifled the Lady Plainsmen on the defensive end, forcing FPC to shoot just 32 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from distance. SPC won the battle on the glass 31-23, scoring 24 points inside the paint and netted seven points on second chance opportunities.
