LEVELLAND — The top-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team had five players score in double figures for the second time in as many games Thursday as they routed Clarendon College 90-42 at the Texan Dome.

With the win, South Plains improves to 26-0 on the year and 10-0 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference and will be off on Monday before traveling to Hobbs for a showdown with No. 8 New Mexico Junior College on Feb. 13.

"We had 22 assists on 34 made baskets, and that means we're sharing the basketball," South Plains head coach Cayla Petree said. "We're happy to have five players score in double figures, and we constantly talk about playing within the framework of the offense and not force shots. "There are enough shots for everyone, and we can create great looks for our team if we do that."

Asia McCoy did it all for South Plains as the 5-10 sophomore from Lawrenceville, Georgia led all scorers with 20 points to go along with 15 rebounds, six coming on the offensive end. McCoy would finish 7 of 10 from the field and 6 of 7 from the free throw line in 32 minutes of action. Sophomore Sarah Shematsi was her usual self, dropping in 15 points and grabbed six boards and blocked two shots over 28 minutes.

"Asia is such a special player because she has such a high motor," Petree said. "When she plays hard and gets those extra possessions for us, it's huge for our team and a credit to her and what she means to us. She played with a lot of heart tonight and she can really make us go."

TCU signee Caroline Germond chipped in 15 points for South Plains, connecting on 6 of 10 shots and also dished out four assists and corralled three boards. Freshman Johanna Teder chipped in 13 points and handed out a game-high nine assists and grabbed six rebounds over 32 minutes. Grace Hunter knocked down a pair of 3s coming off the bench for South Plains, totaling 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the floor.

"Johanna is continuing to grow and her confidence as a shooter continues to improve," Petree said. "We want her to shoot the basketball and get her feet down and shoot it in transition. She had nine assists tonight which is huge for our team and she really helps us get everyone involved on the offensive end."

South Plains shot over 44 percent from the floor and was 15 of 19 from the free throw line. Clarendon struggled to get in a rhythm offensively throughout the game as they shot just 20.8 percent from the floor and were 6 of 22 from the perimeter. The Lady Texans forced 25 turnovers resulting in 29 points on the offensive end and netted 40 points inside the paint while holding Clarendon to just 10 points inside.
