No. 2 Lady Texans route Northwest Kansas Technical College 91-52 Saturday

LEVELLAND — The second-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team had five players score in double figures as they improved to 4-0 on the season with a 91-52 route of Northwest Kansas Technical College Saturday at the Texan Dome.

With the win, head coach Cayla Petree is just one win shy of 100 wins at the helm of the Lady Texan program. South Plains will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 15 at the New Mexico Junior College Classic against No. 15 Salt Lake Community College at 7 p.m, followed by a 5 p.m. matchup against Grayson College on Nov. 16.

LSU commit Sarah Shematsi led all scorers in the contest with 22 points in 23 minutes of action, connecting on 8 of 10 attempts from the field and was 6 of 7 from the 3-point line. Shematsi added nine rebounds to her stat line, eight coming on the defensive for South Plains. Ka'Lia Smith finished with 12 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Texans over 21 minutes, finishing a perfect 5 of 5 from the field and was 2 of 2 from the charity stripe.

6-foot-5 sophomore forward Ruth Koang tallied 13 points and three boards in 12 minutes of action for the Lady Texans, pouring in 6 of 8 shots from the floor was connected on her first 3-ball of the season. Kor Fornesa Liu tallied 11 points, two rebounds and a pair of assist for the Lady Texans, bucketing 5 of 7 shots from the hardwood over 19 minutes.

Freshman Ashala Moseberry recorded 10 points and pair of boards as the Lady Texans shot a 61 percent clip from the floor and were 11 of 23 from the 3-point line. South Plains dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Lady Mavericks 38-18 while scoring 16 points on 13 forced turnovers and 15 points on second-chance opportunities.

Lauryn Vieira led NWKTC with 11 points and five rebounds while Zantasia White had 10 points and Aminata Seck finished with nine points and two rebounds.
