No. 8 Lady Texans extend win streak to 14 games, down Pima College 68-57 Wednesday in Arizona

TUCSON, AZ — Sarah Shematsi scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds as the No. 8-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team closed out their road trip out west with a 68-57 victory over Pima College Wednesday at the Aztec Gymnasium.

With the win, South Plains has won 14 straight games dating back to Nov. 10 as they improve to 17-1 on the year and will return home on Jan. 7 for a conference matchup with Howard College at 5:45 p.m. at the Texan Dome. The contest will be streaming live at spctexans.com and Michael Wiiest of KLVT Radio Levelland will call the courtside action with pregame slated for 5:30 p.m.

Shematsi finished 8 of 16 from the field in 32 minutes of action as the Lady Texans shot 50.9 percent from the floor including a 61 percent mark in the second half. Caroline Germond netted 14 points, six steals and five boards for South Plains while Keke Hunter recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds on 5 of 8 shooting from the floor.

Sophomore Gabbie Hunter chipped in nine points for South Plains while Chantel Govan and Romola Dominguez each had six for the Lady Texans. South Plains forced 25 turnovers in the contest and held Pima (6-8) to just 37 percent shooting from the floor as the Aztecs finished just 9 of 30 from behind the arc.

Shauna Bribiescas and Jacqulynn Nakai each finished with 18 points for Pima while Ryleigh Long had 10 points and four assists and Brianna Pirte tallied five points and two boards.
