No. 8 Lady Texans edge Arizona Western 70-51 Tuesday in Tucson

TUCSON, AZ — The eighth-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team placed four players in double figures en route to a 70-51 victory over Arizona Western Tuesday in their second game at the Pima College Classic.

With the win, South Plains improves to 16-1 on the season and will close out their road trip in the desert on Wednesday when they matchup with Pima College at 3 p.m. MST. Wednesday's contest will be streaming live at spctexans.com.

Sophomore Keke Hunter led the way for South Plains with 17 points and nine rebounds, knocking down 5 of 11 attempts from the field and was 7 of 9 from the free throw line. Caroline Germond poured in 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting as the Lady Texans shot 48.3 percent from the floor in the contest.

Gabbie Green netted 16 points, seven assists and four boards for South Plains while Sarah Shematsi recorded her second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds over 32 minutes.

Reilly Dunn provided four points off the bench for South Plains and Chantel Govan added three points and two rebounds. The Lady Texans knocked down six 3s in the back half and shot 40.9 percent from the perimeter over 40 minutes.

South Plains forced 15 turnovers on the defensive end and held Arizona Western (3-9) to just 30.8 percent shooting from the field including a 25 percent mark from the 3-point line. Mar Ibern led the Arizona Western with 17 points and five rebounds, while Harria Mendoza recorded 10 points and Kayla Rubio netted six points and five rebounds.
