LEVELLAND — Sarah Shematsi led all scorers with 23 points and seven rebounds while Keke Hunter netted 20 points and 11 boards as the No. 11 ranked South Plains College women's basketball team capped off their final game before the Christmas break with an 88-48 drumming of Hill College Sunday afternoon at the Texan Dome.

With the win, South Plains extends their win streak to 11 games and will return to action on Monday, Dec. 31 in Tucson, AZ against Cochise College at 5 p.m. at the Pima College Classic.

"It's always good to win and I'm so proud of our girls for coming to play against a very good basketball team," South Plains head coach Cayla Petree said. "Hill has a lot of weapons, and I would never expect a win like this against a team like Hill. I've been trying to get our team to understand how important it is not to take plays off and how important it is for everyone to do their job and how special we can be if everyone does that. I thought everyone stepped up and came to play and I'm extremely proud of our team."

Shematsi finished 9 of 15 from the field and 3 of 5 from the 3-point line. Hunter poured in 8 of 12 attempts and also dished out two assists and recorded two steals. Ruth Koang chipped in 14 points coming off the bench for South Plains (14-1, 2-0), bucketing 5 of 8 attempts from the field and also grabbed six rebounds in 20 minutes of action.

Freshman Oceane Robin knocked down 3 of 5 attempts off the bench for South Plains as the 6-foot guard from France finished with eight points in 11 minutes of action. Freshman guard Caroline Germond did it all for the Lady Texans, tallying seven points, five steals, four rebounds and four assists for the orange in blue over 27 minutes.

South Plains shot 52.5 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from behind the arc. Hill(7-5) shot just 31.4 percent from the floor and were 10 of 23 from the 3-point line while also committing 24 turnovers resulting in 23 points on the offensive end for South Plains.

"I think the most aggressive person wins in life and we tried to pop them early and keep them down," Petree said. "We had intensity today and were there on every fifty-fifty ball and were super aggressive defensively. I couldn't be more proud of our effort today and everyone contributed to this win."
