No. 15 Lady Texans improve to 9-1, pound Garden City 90-54 Saturday in Athens

ATHENS, TX — The No. 15 ranked South Plains College women's basketball team picked up their sixth consecutive win on Saturday pounding Garden City Community College 90-54 at the Cardinal Gym on the campus of Trinity Valley Community College.

With the win, South Plains improves to 9-1 and will return to action on Sunday at the Texan Dome in Levelland against Lamar College at 4 p.m. Sunday's contest will be streaming live at spctexans.com.

South Plains freshman forward Sarah Shematsi led the offensive attack as she scored a season-high 27 points on 12 of 16 shooting from the floor and also grabbed five boards. Sophomore Gabbie Green netted 18 points as she was a perfect 9-for-9 shooting and also recorded three steals.

Caroline Germond recorded eight points, eight assists, four steals and three rebounds for the Lady Texans while Nyah Morris tallied eight points on 3 of 4 shooting including a pair of 3s in the contest. Chantel Govan and Oceane Robin each scored seven points for South Plains while Reilly Dunn netted six points and three rebounds and Ruth Koang tallied five points and three boards.

South Plains has scored at least 90 points in four of their last five outings as they are averaging 92.1 points per game and shooting 52.4 percent from the floor. Following Sunday's contest, the Lady Texans will open conference play against Midland College on Nov 28 at 5:45 p.m. on 'Meat the Texans' night at the Texan Dome.
