No. 15 Lady Texans improve to 4-1, thrash Dodge City 80-51 Saturday in Liberal

LIBERAL, KS — The No. 15 ranked South Plains College women's basketball team improved to 4-1 on the year Saturday following an 80-51 thrashing of Dodge City at the Greenhouse.

South Plains' Sarah Shematsi scored a season-high 21 points on 8 of 15 shooting to go along with two assists and three steals over 24 minutes. Sophomore Gabbie Green scored in double figures for the second time in as many days, netting 15 points on 7 of 15 shooting to go along with four assists and three boards.

Sophomore Chantel Govan netted nine points and two boards, bucketing four of her six attempts from the field in 26 minutes of action. Caroline Germond netted eight points and four assists while Ocean Robin tallied eight points while Ruth Koang bucketed seven and Nyah Morris finished with six.

South Plains shot 52.6 percent from the floor and 57 percent from the 3-point line, netting 14 points inside the paint and received 40 points off the bench. South Plains forced 17 turnovers in the contest and held Dodge City to just 31 percent shooting from the field and 23 percent from behind the arc.

The Lady Texans will return to the hardwood next weekend when they travel to Beeville for the Coastal Bend College Classic for a three-game stint. South Plains will tip off against Coastal Bend College on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m., followed by a matchup with Palo Alto on Nov. 16 at 1 p.m., followed by a matchup with San Antonio College on Nov. 17 at 11 a.m.
