No. 15 Lady Texans oust Mesa Community College 56-38 Saturday in Odessa

ODESSA — Kiki Hunter and Ruth Koang each poured in 13 points as the No. 15 South Plains College women's basketball team bested Mesa Community College 56-38 Saturday at the OC Sports Center to improve to 3-0 on the year.

South Plains will return to the hardwood next weekend when they travel to Liberal, Kansas for the Pepsi Classic on the campus of Seward County Community College. The Lady Texans will take on Seward County on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m., followed by a matchup with Dodge City on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. Both games will be streaming live at spctexans.com.

Hunter recorded her third consecutive double-double as the six-foot sophomore finished 6 of 12 from the field to go along with 11 rebounds over 29 minutes. Koang knocked down five of her eight attempts from the floor and also grabbed six boards in 15 minutes of action.

South Plains Oceane Robin chipped in eight points on 3 of 5 shooting while Caroline Germond tallied seven points, three assists and three steals and Chantel Govan bucketed six points over 33 minutes.

South Plains shot 39.7 percent (23-58) from the floor and won the battle on the glass, outrebounding Mesa 36-27 inside. The Lady Texans recorded 10 points on 15 forced turnovers and netted 34 points inside the paint. Mesa (0-3) shot just 28 percent from the field and 30 percent from the perimeter in the contest.

Mesa's Iris Doembo led all scorers with 16 points and five boards while Cheyenne Begay added eight points and five rebounds and Raenesha Willis netted three points and four assists.
