#7 Lady Texans set to host #2 Odessa Monday night

LEVELLAND—Home court advantage has been kind to the seventh-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team this season.

To be fair, it really hasn't mattered where the Lady Texans have suited up, as they have won 17 straight games dating back to Nov 4. — 11 at the Texan Dome — six on the road.

South Plains will look to continue that streak come Monday night when they play host to the second-ranked Odessa College Lady Wranglers in a decisive conference showdown beginning at 5:45 p.m. at the Texan Dome in a contest that could have major implications in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference.

The Lady Texans are fresh off a 4-0 stint in Arizona where they went 3-0 in the Bill Culver Memorial Classic including a 70-57 win over the then unbeaten Mesa Community College Lady Thunderbirds on Dec. 29.

By the numbers:

Offensive production has been at a premium for South Plains as they currently average 71.6 points per game and are shooting 41.5 percent from the floor through 18 games. The Lady Texans have dominated the glass and average 35.6 rebounds per contest. Open shots come often for the Lady Texans as they average 12.7 assists per game and are shooting 67 percent from the charity stripe.

About the Lady Wranglers:

Odessa enters Monday's contest with an unblemished 13-0 record. The Lady Wranglers are averaging 75.6 points per game and shooting 43 from the floor. They've struggled from the perimeter as they are shooting just 29 percent from 3-point land, but often find second chances thanks to their 41.7 rebounds per game average. Freshmen Mariah McCully and China Fair lead the Lady Wranglers in scoring as the duo are each averaging 12.7 points per game.

Last season:

The two teams split the series a season ago as Odessa defended their home court and downed the Lady Texans 70-63 on Jan. 7, before eventually falling to South Plains 58-42 on Feb. 4 at the Texan Dome.
