After ending the regular season as winners of seven of their last nine games, the South Plains College Lady Texans will have a chance to shock the NJCAA women's basketball makeup when they travel to the Brownwood Coliseum in Brownwood, Texas for the NJCAA Region 5 basketball tournament.

South Plains is set to take on Collin County on March 3 at 12 p.m., who comes into the tourney as winners of 12 of their last 13, and champions of the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference. Nevertheless, South Plains head coach Cayla Petree has a strong belief that her squad can and will compete against the best the country has to offer.

"We've talked about resolve and toughness all year long, and just being able to make the next play, and do whatever we have to one possession at a time," Petree said. "That's how were approaching this tournament, and we're trying to go out and compete on every single possession in the game against Collin County."

The Lady Texans will be led offensively by freshman guard Elizabeth Cera, who comes into the postseason averaging just over 12 points-per-game. Dabraisia Baty will look to facilitate the offense for South Plains, as the 5-foot-6 Dallas, Texas native is averaging eight points and nearly five assists per game.

Collin County will be looking to get the ball into the hands of sophomore Taylor Jackson, who comes into the tournament averaging over 16 points-per-game and is shooting over 42 percent from the field on the season. Should the Lady Texans get by the Lady Cougars on Thursday, they will then look to matchup with either Midland College of McLennan on March 4 at 5 p.m.

"We know they're (Collin County) a very good basketball team and is ranked 14th in the country, and they won the North side with only one loss," Petree said. "Obviously they're really good and we have a lot of respect for them, but we're not intimated by them. We're going to go down to Brownwood and compete."
