Lady Texans Down Cisco 68-63

Levelland— The South Plains College Lady Texans downed Cisco College 68-63 on Monday at the Texan Dome to improve to 13-5 on the season.

Freshman guard Elizabeth Cera led the Lady Texans with 16 points and three assists in the contest, while Jasmyne Martin finished the game with 12 points and six boards for South Plains.

Mia Cooper totaled nine points and two assists, and Dabraisia Baty racked up seven points, six boards and five assist for SPC.

South Plains jumped out to an early 33-22 lead in the first 20 minutes, shooting just over 52 percent from the floor (13-25) and 66 percent from the three-point line. The Lady Texans' defense forced Cisco to shoot just 30 percent from the field in the first half and forced 11 turnovers before the break.

Cisco went on a run early in the second half and took the lead with just under 12 minutes left in regulation, but the Lady Texans answered back to down the Lady Wranglers and pick up their fourth win over the last five games.

"We were pleased to come out and pick up a win over a very scrappy Cisco team," South Plains college head coach Cayla Petree said. "This was our fifth game in the last seven days, and the bumps that come along with playing that kind of schedule kind of crept up on us, so it felt good to come away with the win.

"We showed a lot of toughness being able to come back when were down seven, so I was proud of that, but there are definitely some thing we need to clean up before getting back into WJCAC play."

The Lady Texans will now travel to Odessa on January 7 for a conference matchup with Odessa College with tipoff set for 5:45 p.m.
