Lady Texans Battle Back To Down Southwest CC

Levelland—The South Plains College Lady Texans overcame an early halftime deficit to defeat Southwest Christian College 60-54 in overtime Saturday afternoon at the Texan Dome.

Aliezza Brown led all scorers with 17 points for the Lady Texans, shooting 50% from the field in the contest. Jasmyne Martin racked up 12 points and five rebounds for SPC, while Yanina Inkina scored 10 points and hauled in 16 rebounds.

SPC struggled early on, shooting just over 25% from the floor in the first half. The Lady Texans were able to battle back and find their stroke from the field in the second half, pushing the game into overtime where SPC would hold Southwest CC to just eight points.

"We competed, and that's we have to continue to do with this group of freshman," South Plains assistant coach Kyle Herring said. "I thought in the first half we didn't compete very well, but we came back from an early deficit in the second period and ended up with an eight point lead at one point.

"This was a great team effort, and Aliezza Brown game off the bench and gave us some good minutes tonight. She didn't force shots tonight and was able to set some screens, she played a lot better, and our team defense played much better. That what we have to come out and do every night, offensively and defensively."
