BORGER – Stephanie Moore led the way with 21 points and 12 rebounds – her fourth double-double of the season – helping the Lady Texans cruise past Frank Phillips College 69-41 Tuesday afternoon in Borger.

The contest was originally scheduled for Monday, but was postponed due to poor weather conditions.

South Plains (23-5, 10-3) scored the first 12 points of the game and led 15-2 before the Lady Plainsmen scored nine straight points to cut the deficit to four.  That was as close as the Lady Texans would allow their opponents to get as they answered with a 7-0 run, thanks in part to three FPC turnovers and would lead by double digits the rest of the game.

The Lady Texans went to the locker room with a 32-17 advantage.

Any hopes of a comeback by the Lady Plainsmen ended when the Lady Texans scored 11 unanswered over a 4 ½ minute span that stretched their lead to 26.

Levelland native Lindsey Lee came off the bench to score 16 points and Jasmine Brainard – a Lubbock Roosevelt grad – chipped in with 11 for the Lady Texans who are still in contention for the WJCAC championship as the season enters its final game Thursday, Feb. 28.

To earn their first WJCAC championship since 2008, the Lady Texans will need a little help.  South Plains trails Midland by a game and would need to defeat Clarendon while also hoping New Mexico beats the Lady Chaps Thursday.  If that were to happen, there would be a three-way tie for first place with SPC, Midland, and New Mexico each owning 11-3 conference records.

Under this scenario, each team would have a season split with the others thus forcing conference officials to use the powerpoint system to break the ties.  Unofficially, the Lady Texans would win the tiebreaker with 42 points compared to 41 by both Midland and New Mexico.

Of course, if Midland defeats New Mexico the Lady Chaps will take the crown and SPC will finish second with a win over Clarendon Thursday at the Texan Dome.

The Lady Texans regular season finale will also be the final home game for sophomoresKayla TurnerShea MyattSydney Hearn, and Stephanie Moore.

Thursday's game versus Clarendon is scheduled to tip-off at 5:45 p.m. and will be broadcast live at www.spctexans.com as well as on the air on KLVT 1230 AM with KLVT Radio's Michael Wiiest calling the action.
