BIG SPRING – The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan basketball teams are on the road again.  Just two days after a road conference showdown with Midland, they are heading to Big Spring for another women's/men's doubleheader with Howard College.  Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. for the Lady Texans, followed by a 3 p.m. game for the Texans.

Both games will be broadcast live at www.spctexans.com, KLVT 1230 AM, andwww.klvtradio.com with KLVT's Michael Wiiest calling the courtside action.

The Texans (18-5, 7-3 in WJCAC) picked up a much needed win Thursday at Midland that broke up a three-way tie for third place and gave them a season sweep of the Chaparrals, defeating them 64-59.  This afternoon, they have the opportunity to stand alone in third place as they are tied with the 18th-ranked Hawks who, coincidentally, have been swept by Midland over two games.

South Plains is also on a four-game winning streak since falling at Odessa Jan. 24.

The Lady Texans (19-4, 6-2) fell 60-51 at Midland Thursday evening in a game that gave the Lady Chaps sole possession of the league lead and put the SPC women in a tie for third with New Mexico – one-half game behind second place Odessa – as each team battles for postseason seeding.

On Saturday, the Lady Texans face a desperate Howard team that is battling to get back into the postseason conversation.  The Lady Hawks are 15-7 overall and 4-5 in the league, 2 ½ games out of the fourth spot.  An SPC victory would give the Lady Texans the advantage of a season sweep as well as making it very difficult for Howard to climb back up the standings.

Both the Texans and Lady Texans will have another short turnaround following this afternoon's games as they next host New Mexico Monday, Feb. 11, in a doubleheader sponsored Covenant Hospital of Levelland.  It will be 'Think Pink' night at the Texan Dome and fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of this initiative.

The SPC athletic department will also be raffling off an iPad4 with retina display with the proceeds being donated to fight this terrible illness.  Monday's games are scheduled for 5:45 p.m. (women) and 7:45 p.m. (men).
