LEVELLAND – The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan basketball teams will hit the road in what could be critical matchups in Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) play Thursday evening at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center in Midland. 

Action will begin with the women's game at 5:45 p.m., followed by the men's game immediately after at 7:45 p.m.  Both games will be streamed live over the Internet at www.spctexans.com, as well as on the radio at KLVT 1230 AM and www.klvtradio.com.  Michael Wiiest will provide the commentary from coutside.

Moving up four spots in the polls, the Lady Texans enter the game as the top-ranked team in the WJCAC at No. 16 nationally, while the Lady Chaps sit just outside the top-25.

Thursday's game between the SPC and Midland women will decide who the leader in the conference standings is.  Currently, Midland holds a half-game edge over the Lady Texans.

South Plains (19-3, 6-1 WJCAC) won their last game a week ago over Clarendon, 84-60, but were idle during Monday's slate of games in which Midland came back from four down in the final 30 seconds to beat Howard 63-62 and take the half-game lead in the standings. 

The Texan men, meanwhile, look to snap a three-way tie for third place against the Chaps, who are also tied in the standings with No. 18 Howard College (18-4, 6-3).

South Plains (17-5, 6-3) is currently on a three game winning streak after defeating Frank Phillips, Clarendon, and most recently, New Mexico Military. 

Winners of five in a row, Midland College also enters Thursday's game with a hot hand.  The Chaps (15-5, 6-3) pummeled Howard 74-60 during a home contest Monday night.

Thursday's action begins a tough stretch of games for both the Texans and Lady Texans.  Following their games against Midland, SPC will travel to Howard on Saturday, before hosting New Mexico Monday, Feb. 11 in a doubleheader sponsored by Covenant Hospital of Levelland on Think Pink Night.
