CLARENDON – Lady Texan sophomore wing Shea Myattexploded for 20 first half points, while ultimately leading all scorers with 23 in the game, and the SPC women made 57-percent of their shots from the field on their way to clobbering Clarendon College 84-60 during a Thursday night road game.

With the win, the No. 20-ranked Lady Texans (19-3, 6-1 WJCAC) find themselves in a tie for first place in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) standings with Midland College (18-5, 6-1) as the first round of league play comes to a close.  South Plains will battle Midland in their next game, Thursday, Feb. 7, at Midland.

Myatt began the game red hot, nailing three 3s in the first four minutes of the game to help the Lady Texans build an early 13-point lead they never looked back from.  She finished the night 8-of-13 from the field while also popping 7-of-10 from downtown and also collected eight rebounds.

South Plains led by as many as 30 before heading to the locker room with a 24-point advantage.

Myatt was not the only Lady Texan pouring in the points as South Plains got 17 from sophomore Stephanie Moore, while newcomers Jasmine Brainard and Tasheena Moore chipped in with 14 and 11, respectively.

Alexius Dawn dished out six assists and picked up as many steals during the contest.

The Lady Texans had their best shooting night of the season against the Lady Bulldogs who, on the contrary, had a tough time getting anything to go, finishing the game 19-of-73 (.260) from the field with nearly half of their field goal attempts coming from beyond the 3-point line.

South Plains will enjoy the night off when conference play resumes on Monday, before beginning a very tough three games in five days stretch where they will play at Midland (Feb. 7), at Howard (Feb. 9) and then host New Mexico (Feb. 11).

Midland knocked off New Mexico Thursday night to break the three-way tie and set up a potential show down for the league lead next Thursday.

The Lady Texans game against Midland will be broadcast live over the internet at www.spctexans.com as well as over the air on KLVT 1230 AM and www.klvtradio.com.  KLVT Radio's Michael Wiiest will call the courtside action from the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum with a 5:45 p.m. tipoff.

Midland has won five games in a row since losing their only conference game against the Lady Texans Jan. 10.  South Plains has won four consecutive and 12 of their last 13.
