The Lady Texans (17-3, 4-1) enter Monday's contest versus the Lady Plainsmen riding high, fresh off a 64-60 road victory over Odessa College.  Ranked No. 21 in the NJCAA, the SPC women are only a game behind Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) leading New Mexico and tied for second in the standings with Midland College as the conference season nears its midway point.

South Plains will have to be at their best again Monday against the Lady Plainsmen (9-11, 2-3) as Frank Phillips has picked up a couple WJCAC victories and most recently kept No. 19 New Mexico to within six points in a 64-58 loss.

The Lady Plainsmen rank just ahead of the Lady Texans in scoring offense with 67 points per game, though they give up a league worst 80 points per contest.

The Texans, meanwhile, are coming off a road loss to the Wranglers in which they scored fewer than 50 points for the third time this season in a 61-48 loss.  Since the WJCAC schedule has began, the Texans have averaged only 62 points per game through six contests, but only give up a league best 56 points per game.

Frank Phillips (12-8, 2-4) picked up a big conference win Jan. 17 at Midland and rank fourth in the league in scoring offense with 71 per game, but sit near the bottom in scoring defense, giving up just over 80 per game.

Following their games against Frank Phillips on Monday, the Texans and Lady Texans will then travel to Clarendon Thursday, Jan. 31 where they will wrap up the first half of league play.

Picking up victories will be crucial for both the Texans and Lady Texans before they begin the second half of the season where the SPC men will play five games in 10 days and the women will play four games in eight days.
