IPad2 raffle helps raise nearly $2,000 during SPC's Think Pink Night
LEVELLAND - In an effort to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer, the South Plains College athletic department teamed up with Covenant Hospital of Levelland during their annual 'Think Pink' game against Frank Phillips College February 16.

Nearly $2,000 was raised by raffling an Apple IPad2 that was won by Lydia Couch during halftime of the Texans game versus Frank Phillips. $1,700 will go to Covenant Hospital of Levelland, while $298 will be sent to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for their efforts to promote awareness.

Kathy McDonald said the money Covenant Hospital of Levelland receives from Think Pink Night helps provide funding that gives more women access to the care they need.

"All monies raised during our Think Pink night with SPC will allow some Hockley County women to receive mammograms that they normally would not be able to afford," McDonald said. "Increasing funding options for all women to have access to mammograms is one of the goals of our hospital."

A mammogram is a low-dose, non-invasive X-ray used to examine and search for breast tissue irregularities. The American Cancer Society recommends a screening mammogram every one to two years for women, beginning at age 40. This is important due to the fact that successful treatment is often linked to early detection.
