Tip-off is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. for the ladies and 7:45 p.m. for the men. Employees of South Plains College are invited to eat in the West side of the Texan Dome from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and are also encouraged to enter to win $250 cash at halftime of both Texan and Lady Texan games.

The NJCAA No. 1 ranked Texans enter their rematch with the T-Birds coming off a 106-62 throttling of Frank Phillips College Thursday night to improve their record to 25-0 overall and 10-0 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC). 

New Mexico (19-7, 7-3) defeated Odessa 72-71 in overtime, thanks to a last second 3-point basket that sent the game to extra time as Odessa led 69-66 in the final seconds of regulation and are one game behind Howard College for second place in the WJCAC.

South Plains barely escaped Hobbs with a victory on January 26 as they trailed by four points with 20-seconds remaining in regulation. Marshall Henderson hit a 3-pointer and two free throws before time expired to force the game into overtime and then nailed a 3 in the corner with just over a second remaining to lift the then newly No. 1 ranked Texans to victory and keep their undefeated record intact. The T-Birds have lost only once since then and enter the contest on a four game winning streak.

New Mexico is in the position they are in due to a stout defense that ranks second in the WJCAC, allowing only 64 points per game through nine conference contests. The Texans, however, have the top offense in the conference with 86 points per game and their defensive numbers also rank third, allowing only 67 points per game.

A victory over the T-Birds would help South Plains at least maintain a two game edge over Howard College in the standings before they head to Big Spring Thursday, February 23. 

With only three games remaining on their regular season schedule the Lady Texans find themselves with a 11/2 game lead over Western Texas for fourth place in the WJCAC and only trail Odessa by one game for the third spot. 


The Lady Texans (8-17, 5-4) fell to New Mexico 63-41 on January 26 in Hobbs, N.M., but have caught fire and have won five-of-their-last-seven games. A win over the current conference leader would give the Lady Texans even more confidence heading into their final two games versus Howard and Western Texas.

South Plains ranks fourth in scoring offense and defense, while the Lady T-Birds are at the top of both categories. 

New Mexico (23-3, 7-1) defeated Odessa 73-61 Thursday night in Hobbs, N.M., but suffered their first conference loss Monday, February 13, a 10 point defeat to Midland College.

South Plains' 25-0 start is the best for Coach Steve Green as a head coach. After beginning the 2002-03 season 2-2, Coach Green and the Texans reeled off 29 straight wins en route to winning WJCAC and Region 5 championships to qualify for the NJCAA tournament for the second consecutive season.

Green has a record of 22-1 against New Mexico as SPC's head coach.

After getting off to a rocky start, South Plains has righted the ship by winning five-of-their-last-seven games and trail third place Odessa by only a single game. They are in position to qualify for the Region 5 tournament. The Lady Texans have qualified for the Region 5 tournament every year since last missing it following the 2003-04 season.

Head Coach Michelle Wyatt has had enormous success against New Mexico, posting a 13-2 record against the Lady T-Birds as SPC's head coach.
