LEVELLAND, Texas - The No. 1 ranked South Plains College Texan basketball team is set to host back-to-back conference games in the same week for the first time this season when they play host to the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos on Monday, February 6, and then follow that up with a Homecoming celebration as they square off with Midland on Thursday, February 9. The undefeated Texans have plenty of activities planned for those wishing to come out and watch top-notch basketball.


The South Plains College athletic department would like to honor all who have served in the United States Armed Forces at halftime of the New Mexico Military game on February 6. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. and veterans can pick up a complimentary ticket at the SPC Student Activities office in Levelland or in building 8 of the SPC Reese Center in Lubbock.

Presenting the colors of the United States of America will be the Junior ROTC from Estacado High School in Lubbock. Halftime entertainment will include a performance by the Eagle Mania basketball group from Ropesville.

South Plains is planning a 'Pack the Dome' event for their Texan and Lady Texan Homecoming doubleheader against Midland College. Lady Texan's tip-off at 5:45 p.m. and the Texans are scheduled for a 7:45 p.m. tip.

A brisket meal will be available for fans from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased upon entering the Texan Dome. Cost of the meal, including admittance to the game and one raffle ticket for a flat screen tv, is $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Fans may also purchase additional raffle tickets for $2 apiece. The drawing will take place at halftime of the men's game.

The First Baptist Church choir of Levelland will have the honor of singing the National Anthem before each game and will also perform during the men's intermission.

Homecoming festivities will take place during the Lady Texan halftime. Representing the athletic department for Homecoming King and Queen are cross country and track athlete Jonathan Lira and SPC Cheerleader Victoria VanZandt. Jonathan is a 2010 graduate of Plains high school and is the son of Junior and Rachel Lira. Ms. VanZandt graduated from Whiteface High School in 2010 and is the daughter of Dawn VanZandt. 

The Texans enter the week of contests ranked No. 1 in the nation and sporting an overall record of 21-0, while the Lady Texans will enter Thursday's game against Midland on a two game winning streak and in the hunt for a Region 5 playoff berth.
