The Texans (20-0, 5-0 WJCAC) will put their No. 1 NJCAA ranking on the line for the third time - the first as a unanimous selection - against a Western Texas team coming off a 40 point thumping to the hands of Odessa Monday night, losing 103-63.
Western Texas enters the contest with an overall record of 13-8 but is 1-4 in league play and is currently riding a three game skid.
The Lady Texans (5-16, 2-3 WJCAC) picked up some much needed momentum heading into their contest versus Western Texas with a 43-36 victory over Howard. A win over the Lady Westerners would even-up their conference record as they wrap up the first half of their WJCAC schedule. South Plains currently holds the fourth spot in the league ahead of Howard (14-7, 1-3), Western Texas (12-9, 1-3), and Frank Phillips (5-14, 0-4).
Head Coach Michelle Wyatt said Thursday's matchup is pretty even, evidenced by a 58-56 Lady Texan loss to Western Texas on December 1 in the opening round of the WJCAC pre-conference tournament.
The Texans will return to the Texan Dome Monday when they host the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos and both the Texans and Lady Texans will square off with Midland Thursday, February 9 in their homecoming games.
