HOBBS, N.M. - Sophomore Ashley Roberts was held to 13 points and was the lone Lady Texan to score in double figures Thursday night as the South Plains College Lady Texans fell to the New Mexico JC Lady T-Birds 63-41.
Roberts made 6-of-11 shots but scored only two points in a competitive first half.
Down only six points with the clock winding down, New Mexico's Kya DeGarmo made a half-court buzzer beater to give her team a nine point lead at the break.
Roberts got South Plains to within five points in the opening minute of the second half, but New Mexico answered with a 12-0 run and never allowed the Lady Texans to get within 15 for the duration of the night.
South Plains (4-16, 1-3 WJCAC) turned the ball over 34 times compared to only 16 by New Mexico.
The Lady Texans will look to get back on the winning track when they host Howard College at the Texan Dome Monday, January 30. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m. and a live video stream will be available at www.spctexans.com.
