Lady Texans fall to Midland 68-50
MIDLAND - The 2011-12 season continues to be a struggle for the South Plains College Lady Texans as their overall record fell to 3 wins and 14 losses for the season with their 68-50 loss at Midland College Monday night in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) opener for both schools. Lady Texan sophomore guard Ashley Roberts led all scorers with 19 points.

South Plains played a scrappy first half, coming back from a 13 point deficit to get to within four points with just over a minute remaining. The two teams would go to the locker room with Midland leading 31-23.

With five players standing taller than 6 feet, 1 inches in height, Midland College was just too much for the Lady Texans in the second half as they accumulated as much as a 26 point lead before settling for the 18 point margin of victory.

The Lady Texans made only 19-of-74 (.257) shots from the field compared to the 30-of-76 (.395) made field goal attempts of Midland.

Raely Parada contributed for the Lady Texans with nine points while Shea Myatt chipped in with seven. Freshman Jazzmin Hill hit the boards hard for SPC as she grabbed 15 rebounds and also swatted away two shots. Sydney Hearn and Stephanie Moore grabbed seven rebounds apiece.

The Lady Texans will return to the hardwood on Thursday, January 19 when they host Odessa College (12-5, 1-0 WJCAC) in their WJCAC home opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. and a live webcast of the contest will be available at www.spctexans.com.

McDonald's of Levelland is the sponsor for Thursday's contest and have donated a game ticket for every student in Hockley County. Tickets will be delivered to the superintendent's office of each Hockley County school between Tuesday and Wednesday.
