Lady Texans topple Clarendon in non-conference matchup

CLARENDON, Texas - Sophomore Kelsey Canavan continued her dominant ways in Monday night's 87-73 Lady Texan victory over Clarendon College when she finished with game highs of 31 points and 17 rebounds to lead South Plains College. Canavan made 14-of-17 shots from the field.

Though Monday's game had no bearing on the conference standings, the Lady Texans (18-8, 7-4) clinched a berth into next month's Region 5 tournament due to Odessa College knocking off Howard College. South Plains College still has plenty to battle for entering Thursday's season finale against New Mexico Junior College at the Texan Dome as a victory would help the Lady Texans enter the regional tournament as the No. 3 seed from the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) instead of the No. 4 seed.

The Lady Texans shot lights out from the field, making 35-of-57 (.614) shots. In addition to Canavan's big night, South Plains had three others score in double figures as Toi'Easha Cooper scored 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while Ashley Roberts and Lorie Romainechipped in with 19 and 10, respectively.

South Plains' Thursday night showdown with New Mexico Junior College (20-8, 6-5) will tip-off at 5:45 p.m. at the Texan Dome. HPRN's Michael Wiiest will call the courtside action that can be heard on KLVT 1230 AM and www.hprnetwork.com. SPC TV will provide live video that can be accessed on NTS channel 63 or by visiting www.spctexans.com.

Ameriprise Financial is hosting their annual SPC employees VIP night. A reception that will include a fajita dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the west hall of the Texan Dome.
