Lady Texans trip up in second half, fall to Odessa 63-59

ODESSA, Texas - The South Plains College Lady Texans (16-8, 6-4) took a five point halftime lead to the locker room against Odessa College (17-9, 7-2) Monday night, but could not hang on as they fell to the Lady Wranglers 63-59.

Odessa entered the second half on fire and jumped all over the Lady Texans to take control of the game with a 23-8 run to begin the half, taking a 50-40 advantage with 8 minutes, 58 seconds remaining in the game. South Plains pulled to within six with 1:27 to go in the game, but a scoring drought saw neither team score again until Toi'Easha Cooper laid one in with only 19 seconds left.

Since the Lady Texans had only committed five fouls in the half, it took two fouls by Raely Parada to send Odessa to the line in an effort to get their hands back on the ball. Odessa's Telisha Joe would miss the front end of her 1-and-1, but too much time had milked off the clock and the Lady Texans would fall 63-59.

South Plains College now sits ½ game ahead of Howard College (20-7, 5-4) in third place within the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) standings.

Sophomore Kelsey Canavan had game highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Texans and Cooper just missed a double-double as she finished with 19 points going along with nine rebounds. Ashley Roberts would chip in with 12 points.
