SPC basketball set for showdowns at Odessa

LEVELLAND, Texas - The South Plains College Texans and Lady Texans take on Odessa College today at the OC Sports Center in Odessa. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. for the Lady Texans and 7:45 p.m. for the Texans.

The Lady Texans (16-7, 6-3) have a golden opportunity to take sole possession of second place in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) when they face the Lady Wranglers (16-9, 6-2) who are ½ game ahead of the SPC women. South Plains College dealt Odessa one of their two WJCAC losses on January 20, with an 81-67 victory at the Texan Dome. Ashley Roberts made 9-of-17 shots, including 5-of-8 from downtown, on her way to scoring a season high 30 points in the win.

The Texans (14-11, 3-7), who have not missed an appearance in the Region 5 tournament since the 1999-2000 season, are looking at the possibility of missing the tournament this season if they do not quickly get things back on track. South Plains College is currently in a three-way tie for fifth place in the WJCAC and two games behind New Mexico JC (18-6, 5-5) for the fourth and final spot with four games remaining.

A win against NJCAA No. 21 ranked Odessa (21-5, 7-3) could be just what the SPC men need to get back in the hunt. The Texans arguably put together their best performance of the year in a 75-60 blowout victory of the Wranglers on January 20 at the Texan Dome. Unfortunately, the Texans have dropped 5-of-6 since their win over Odessa and desperately look to snap a four game skid.

HPRN's Michael Wiiest will call the play-by-play on KLVT 1230 AM as well aswww.hprnetwork.com. A live video stream will be available for both games atwww.spctexans.com.
