Second half explosion leads Lady Texans to a 103-58 thumping of Clarendon

LEVELLAND, Texas - After jumping out to a 17-7 lead in the opening minutes of Thursday night's non-conference game versus Clarendon, the Lady Texans briefly let their guard down and found themselves down by a point, 31-30. They quickly regained the lead and went to the locker room with a somewhat modest 42-34 lead.

The Lady Texans again pounced on their opponent in the second half; this time opening up with a 19-2 run that gave them a very comfortable 25 point lead. SPC did not stop their as they went on to outscore the Lady Bulldogs 61-24 in the second half of play to absolutely dominate with a 103-58 victory. They Lady Texans improve to 13-6 on the season and remain 3-2 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) play as they enter Monday night's contest with New Mexico Junior College (18-4, 4-1) in a three-way tie for third best in the league and only a game out of first.

Kelsey Canavan led five Lady Texans scoring in double figures with a season high 26 points to go along with 14 rebounds. Lauren McKinney also recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Ashley Roberts and Toi'Easha Cooper chipped in with 15 and 14 points. Raely Parada contributed with 10.

South Plains' Monday showdown with the co-conference leading Lady T-Birds is scheduled to tip at 5:45 MST in Hobbs, N.M. New Mexico's lone blemish came at the hands of Midland College (19-4, 4-1), currently ranked No. 18 in the NJCAA.
