Roberts 30 points help Lady Texans cruise to conference victory over Odessa
LEVELLAND, Texas - Freshman Ashley Roberts had a career night scoring 30 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field and three other Lady Texans scored in double figures to help South Plains College to an 81-67 victory over the Lady Wranglers of Odessa College. The win moves the Lady Texans to 2-2 overall in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) standings and 11-6 overall.

In addition to Roberts, who was also 5-of-8 from downtown and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe, the Lady Texans go 15 points from sophomore Toi'Easha Cooper, 14 points and 10 rebounds fromKelsey Canavan, and 11 points from Lauren McKinney.

South Plains led by as many as 12 points in the first half before going to the locker room up by eight, 37-29.

Roberts opened the second half with a three-point basket and it looked as if a Lady Texan rout might be on as South Plains opened the half outscoring Odessa 11-2 to take a 17 point lead in the opening minutes.

Down 59-46 with 10:54 left to play, Odessa began chipping away at the Lady Texan lead and got to within only three points on two occasions.

Up 67-64 with less than four minutes left on the clock, South Plains ended Odessa's hopes with a 14-3 scoring run that allowed them to within one game of conference leader Midland College.

The Lady Texans will travel to Borger on Monday where they are scheduled to face the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen (4-15, 0-3) at 5:45 p.m. Frank Phillips was idle Thursday evening and lost by 17 points in their last outing to Odessa College on Monday, January 17.
