Lady Texans Defeat Frank Phillips 64-45

LEVELLAND, Texas - The South Plains College Lady Texans improved to 17-4 overall and 4-1 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play with a 64-45 victory over the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen.
 
South Plains College came out a bit sluggish as they trailed 13-11 with ten minutes to go in the first half.  However, the Lady Texans were able to go to the locker room with a 21-18 halftime lead.
 
Whatever SPC head coach Michelle Wyatt said at halftime must have provided a spark for the Lady Texans as they went on a 15-1 run to begin the second half, with Dayon Hall-Jones scoring seven of her nine points during that span to take a 36-19 lead with 16:23 to play.  Frank Phillips never got within 16 points after that as the Lady Texans cruised to victory.
 
Freshman guard Sajoyia Griffin had a terrific game, recording a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.  Lubbock native Taniqua Ards added 12 points and six rebounds, while Chasity Workman had a solid game scoring eight points and pulling down seven rebounds.  Also for SPC, Dayon Hall-Jones scored nine points, Lashanda Luckey added six, McKinsie East tallied five, Samiesha Williams had four, and Christen McLee scored three.  Sophomore wing Rachel Gray pulled down a game high 13 rebounds.
 
The Lady Texans hit the road again on Thursday, January 22 when they take on Howard College in Big Spring, Texas.  The game will be aired live on KLVT 1230 AM andwww.hprnetwork.com and is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
