South Plains makes impressive showing on day one of Tyson Invitational

Day one of the 2017 Tyson Invitational on the campus of the University of Arkansas saw the Texans and Lady Texans earn top finishes across the board.

Laquan Nairn earned a fourth place finish as the sophomore from the Bahamas jumped 25-7 ¼ in the men's long jump invitational round. Saahir Bethea placed inside the top 10 in the men's long jump with a final mark of 24-1 ¾, good enough for sixth place.

Robert Dunning ran a 7.95 in the men's 60 meter hurdles and placed 11th overall amongst 30 competitors. In the men's 800 meter run Felix Kosgei and Montel Hood placed 16th and 17th overall for South Plains with their final times of 1:59.49 and 2:02.30, respectively.

In the women's 800 meter run Hellen Maasotuo placed sixth overall for the Lady Texans with her final time of 2:15.63. In the women's 400-meter dash, Natassha McDonald placed 20th for South Plains with her final time of 55:30. Okeen Williams would go on to place 20th for the Texans in the men's 400-meter dash with a final time of 48:20.
