South Plains impresses at Howard College Rodeo in Big Spring

The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams concluded their fourth rodeo of the spring season over the weekend at the Howard College Rodeo in Big Spring.

Chet Boren and Coy Surrett continued their dominance in the steer wrestling event as the duo captured the top two spots overall for the Texans. Boren entered the weekend ranked second in the region and added to that mark with a first place finish and final point total of 160.

Boren used a long round time of 4.2 followed by a short round time of 3.9 in the finals to earn the top position. Surrett wasn't far behind with his long time of 4.8 followed by a short time of 4.1 racking up 100 points and a second place finish.

Jose Domenigo rode his way to a third place finish in the team roping event after running a long time of 7.1 and short time of 7.7 in the finals. Kade Cotton and Denton Halford teamed up to take sixth in team roping with their long time of 7.7 followed by a short time of 11.9.

South Plains' Rainy Robinson entered the weekend as the top barrel racer in the region and earned a fourth place finish at Howard with a long time of 16.36 followed by a short round time of 16.45.

Baylee Henderson earned a seventh place finish in the breakaway roping event for the Lady Texans after running a long time of 2.9 and a short time of 12.5 in the final round. South Plains will look to close out the season in prime fashion when they travel to Stephenville for the Tarleton State University Rodeo on April 20-22.
