South Plains Rodeo earns top 10 finishes in Odessa

ODESSA—The South Plains College rodeo teams kicked off the spring season with two top 10 finishes over the weekend at the Ector County Coliseum in Odessa. 

The Lady Texans rode their way to a fourth place finish after totaling 145 team points. Texas Tech took first with 340 points, as Tarleton State and Eastern New Mexico University placed second and third with final point totals of 265 and 190, respectively.

The Texans bucked their way to an eight place finish with 145 team points. Tarleton placed first with 593 points, while Odessa, Western Texas, Cisco and West Texas A&M rounded out the top five.

Zach Kirkpatrick got things rolling for the Texans with a third place finish in the tiedown roping competition with a final point total of 60 points. The Lady Texans dominated the goat tying competition as they placed three contestants inside the top 10. Megan Burbridge placed fifth overall with 60 points, while Kashley Seitz and Baylee Henderson placed sixth and seventh with final totals of 40 and 30 points, respectively.

Chet and Taylor Boren earned a fourth place finish in team roping as the duo ran a 6.3 in the long round and a 15.60 in the short round racking up 30 points for South Plains. Rainy Robinson used a 15.34 in the long round and a 14.87 in the short round to earn a third place finish for the Lady Texans in the barrel racing event. Sierra White also impressed in barrel racing after her long round time of 15.29 and short round time of 15.37, good enough for seventh place overall.

Following an impressive outing in Odessa, South Plains will be back in action on March 23 when they travel to the Ranger College Rodeo, followed by a trip to Western Texas College on March 30. Full results from Odessa can be found by visiting the rodeo pages at spctexans.com.
