SNYDER—The South Plains College rodeo teams made their third appearance of this spring season this weekend at the Western Texas College Rodeo in Snyder, Texas against a field of elite competition.

Shane Hancock led the way for South Plains once again, as the sophomore from Fountain Green, Utah took second place overall in the men's calf roping competition, with a final point total of 100 points. Also placing in the top five for South Plains in the men's calf roping competition was Buhl, Idaho native Coy Surrett, who's final point tally of 30 points was good enough for fourth place.

In the men's steer wrestling competition, Canada native Rylie Hayes finished eighth overall after racking up 25 points for the Texans. South Plains came into the weekend's rodeo ranked 13th in the Southwest Region with a point total 540. Tarleton State University currently sits in first with 3, 068 total points, with Western Texas College and Weatherford College holding down the second and third spots.

The Lady Texans were unable to place over this weekend, but came in ranked fourth overall in the region with 1,032 total points. The Lady Texans trail only Texas Tech University, Eastern New Mexico University and Tarleton State University.

The Texans and Lady Texans will be back in action this weekend as they are set to travel to Big Spring, Texas for the Howard College Rodeo beginning on April 7.
