SPC rodeo set for Ranger College rodeo

Following a first place performance from the South Plains College Lady Texans rodeo team on February 27 in Odessa, the SPC rodeo teams will make their second appearance of the spring season this weekend when they travel to Ranger, Texas for the Ranger College Rodeo.

The Lady Texans will come into the weekend ranked third in the Southwest region with a total of 1,022.50 points, trailing only Eastern New Mexico University and Texas Tech University, who hold point totals of 1,097.49 and 1,667.50, respectively.

The Lady Texans Shay Spitz looked to be in mid-season form in the women's barrel racing event in Odessa, taking the top spot with a final point total of 180, with Tarleton State's Ashleigh Baugh placing second with 110 points. Spitz ran a long time of 15.02, and a short time of 14.9, good enough for first in both sets.

Kortney McReynolds racked up 50 points in the barrel racing event after running a long time of 15.32, and a short time of 15.26, good enough for an overall average of 30.58. The Lady Texans would go on to win the overall women's competition with a final point total of 310, nearly 40 points better than Tarleton's 273.33.

The Texans will head into Ranger ranked 14th in the Southwest region with a total of 405.00 points, and will be looking to improve on their overall team performance after being unable to place while in Odessa.

Tarleton took the top position in the men's division with a total of 510 points, followed by Western Texas' final total of 395. West Texas A&M would place third with a score of 370, while Clarendon's total of 230 points was good enough for fourth place.

Following their trip to Ranger, the Texans and Lady Texans will be back on the saddles when they travel to Western Texas College on March 31.
